Personnel from the Power Systems Department have participated in numerous distribution equipment research, development, demonstration, testing, and evaluation programs for the U.S. Navy Civil Engineering Laboratory. Major accomplishments include the development of a power cable diagnostic monitoring system, product testing and advancement of high-efficiency, environmental hazard-free dry type transformers (primarily cast coil and amorphous core types), and research into the use of acoustic emission detection techniques for detecting partial discharges in cast coil transformers.
