Shaun Murphy earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Tech in 2012. After graduating, Shaun joined PJM as an ARC engineer in the company’s three-year rotational program. He joined the Applied Solutions Department as an Engineer in 2015 and his current work focuses on synchrophasor applications and transmission line thermal modeling. Shaun earned a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from Drexel University in 2014, and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. with a focus on transmission line thermal modeling and temperature dependent power flow. 






 

Rob Gramlich has been working to drive grid modernization and expansion efforts since the mid-1990s. Through senior positions in government and the private sector, he has developed and led initiatives on renewable energy integration, market design, and transmission policy. Rob oversaw transmission policy for the American Wind Energy Association from 2005 through 2016 as Senior Vice President for Government and Public Affairs, Interim CEO, and Policy Director. He was Economic Advisor to FERC Chairman Pat Wood III from 2001 to 2005, Senior Economist at PJM Interconnection in 1999 and 2000, Senior Associate at PG&E National Energy Group in 2000-2001, and an analyst at the FERC Office of Economic Policy, ICF Resources, the World Resources Institute, and the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in the 1990s. Rob has a Master of Public Policy (MPP) degree from UC Berkeley and a BA with Honors in Economics from Colby College.

​Rodger Renwick is the Principal Engineer, Transmission Lines for AltaLink, Alberta's largest electricity transmission provider. Mr. Renwick has 28 years of experience in the design, construction and maintenance of transmission lines. He has influenced and contributed to the development of Albertan and Canadian codes and standards including the Alberta Electric Utility Code, the Canadian Standards Association's Technical Committee for Overhead Line Design and the Committee for Reliability-Based Design. Mr. Renwick graduated from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and is a member of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) and a member of the Association of Professional Engineers of British Columbia (APEGBC).

Katya Le Blanc is a human factors scientist with 10 years of experience conducting psychological and human factors research. She has been at Idaho National Laboratory 7 years where she has led research investigating human-automation interaction, interface design for tools used in nuclear power plants, design and evaluation of nuclear power plant control room technologies, and design of displays to support utility operators. She has also conducted research on human factors issues in cyber security. She holds a BS in psychology from New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology, an MA in cognitive psychology from New Mexico State University, and is a PhD candidate in cognitive psychology at New Mexico State University.

Bob Bradish is vice president — AEP Transmission Grid Development, responsible for AEP Transmission System Planning, Transmission Operations, and Advanced Transmission Studies and Technologies. Bob is responsible for managing activities related to: 1) the development of a portfolio of projects required to meet the needs of AEP's customers; 2) the real-time operation of AEP's transmission grid; and 3) advanced technical/analytical studies in support of planning, engineering, design and operation of the AEP transmission system. He is also responsible for managing/coordinating AEP's Transmission Technology/Research and Develop Program.

Hudson Gilmer is Genscape's VP of Commercial Markets.  He has 10 years of experience developing solutions for electric power utilities, and has helped Genscape expand transmission line monitoring to over 5,000 lines worldwide. Prior to Genscape, he was Director of Marketing at EnerNOC – the industry's leading demand response provider.  Hudson earned an MBA from MIT's Sloan School of Management and an honors degree in Economics and Computer Science from the University of Toronto.

Catherine Meissner is the Software Development Manager of WindSim AS. Catherine joined WindSim AS in 2008 and holds a Phd in Meteorology from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. She has followed the use of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) in INL’s dynamic line rating software from the beginning in 2009 and has developed the major parts of the CFD code which is related to dynamic line rating. Since 2011 she is the main responsible for the wind power forecasting system developed by WindSim AS which can also be used for dynamic line rating forecasts.

Rich Bauer is the Associate Director of Reliability Risk Management – Event Analysis for the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC). Joining NERC in January 2013, Rich promotes the understanding and learning from events and occurrences that are experienced on the Bulk Electric System. The Reliability Risk Management group performs forensic analysis of major system disturbances as well as cause analysis of events through the NERC Event Analysis Process. Rich participates on the NERC System Protection and Control Subcommittee and the NERC Event Analysis Subcommittee as well as numerous working groups and task forces. Rich’s career in the electric utility industry spans more than 35 years. After a long career with an investor owned utility in the northwest, he joined NERC 4 years ago. His utility career has included experience in System Protection and Communications, Hydro Production, Substation Apparatus, Transmission Operations and Transmission Planning. Rich has taught System Protection classes at Washington State University’s Hands on Relay School and has lectured widely on system events.

Terron Hill is currently director, Transmission Network Strategy at National Grid. In this role, he is responsible for infrastructure investments on National Grid’s US electric transmission grid and deployment of new innovative technologies to deliver efficient and clean energy. Prior to this, Terron held roles responsible for transmission business performance, corporate strategy and development, wholesale electricity market analytics, utility regulation and energy policy. Terron attended Cornell University with a BA in Economics and Sociology and a graduate degree in Public Policy Administration. Terron has served on nonprofit boards, including Bird Street Community Center serving the Dorchester and Roxbury communities of Boston providing after-school and summer enrichment opportunities, the Greater Boston Chapter of the American Association of Blacks in Energy, and the Leadership Council of the Boys and Girls Club of Boston. In 2014, Terron was nominated by Boston’s Mayor Martin J. Walsh to serve on the ONEin3 Council. ONEin3 is an action-oriented group charged with brainstorming, creating, and carrying out projects that directly impact Boston’s young professional population. Terron is a native of Detroit, Michigan; and currently lives in Boston, Massachusetts.

Tom Dautel is a supervisory economist in the Office of Energy Policy and Innovation at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.  Mr. Dautel’s experience includes economic and engineering analysis related to wholesale electric power market design and price formation, electric transmission service, generator interconnection, distributed generation, electric storage, and variable resource integration, among other things.  Previously, Mr. Dautel held engineering positions with the electric power consulting firm Sargent & Lundy, and the public safety testing organization Underwriters Laboratories.  Mr. Dautel has undergraduate degrees in mechanical engineering and economics from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Northwestern University, respectively, and a master’s degree in economics from George Mason University.  Mr. Dautel is a registered professional engineer in the State of Illinois.

Phil Spillane is the Vice President of Marketing at Lindsey Manufacturing Company having responsibility for product development of sensors and systems relating to  measurement , monitoring ,  and forecasting of transmission line conductor behavior and capacity.  He has co-authored several papers and is co-inventor on three US patents.  Phil has more than 30 years of experience working with power utilities with interest in TL construction and electrical measurement technologies.  He has a BS in Electrical Engineering from South Eastern Massachusetts Technical Institute.

​Jonathan Marmillo leads the global business development efforts for Genscape's LineVision™ non-contact EMF based transmission line monitoring and dynamic line rating system. He has over 9 years' experience in the power and energy sector and prior to joining Genscape in 2015, he worked in General Electric's transmission and distribution organization focusing on substation asset monitoring. He holds a M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Lehigh University and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Lehigh University. Jonathan is an active member of CIGRE and IEEE's Power and Energy Society.

Commisioner ​Paul Kjellander rejoined the Idaho Public Utilities Commission in April 2011 following his service as Administrator of the Office of Energy Resources (OER).  Kjellander, who serves as Commission President, was appointed to his current six year term by Idaho Governor C.L. "Butch" Otter. Kjellander previously served on the Idaho Public Utilities Commission from January 1999 until October 2007.  In 2007 Governor Otter appointed Kjellander to head up the newly created OER.  During his 3.5 years as the head of OER, Kjellander created an aggressive energy efficiency program funded through the federal stimulus act.  Kjellander was also elected to serve as a board member on the National Association of State Energy Officials.

​Gerhard Biedenbach is the Director of Sales, Marketing & Engineering, Overhead Line Products from Underground Systems, Inc. He has been in this capacity since May 2016. Prior to joining USi he worked for Nexans’ subsidiary, The Valley Group, responsible for the European market. Gerhard began his career in the Engineering Department at RIBE, a manufacturer of electrical fittings in Germany. From 2004 – 2007 he was an independent agent and sales manager for the private-owned company, The Valley Group, Inc. until the company was sold to Nexans.

Gerhard has 20 years of experience in overhead line monitoring and Dynamic Line Rating and was secretary of B2.04,“Electrical performance of OHL”, until 2016. He was a member of several working groups dealing with DLR and high temperature conductors. He is also a member of IEEE. Gerhard earned an engineering degree in Mathematics from the TH Darmstadt.

Nic Wilson is an Energy Business Development Manager at Vaisala, based in Denver, Colorado. He began his career in Vaisala in 2006 as a product manager for lightning software applications and has been working with renewable energy and electric utility customers in a variety of roles since 2008, including a three-year expatriate assignment in Hamburg, Germany. In his current role he supports global strategic partnerships and new business opportunities for Vaisala in energy applications. He holds an MS in Professional Meteorology from the University of Oklahoma and an MBA from the Eller College of Management at the University of Arizona.

Missy Petty currently serves as Section Chief of the Forecast Impact and Quality Assessment Section (FIQAS) within the Global Systems Division of NOAA's Earth System Research Laboratory. In this role, she works closely with the National Weather Service, Federal Aviation Administration, and other organizations to advance weather forecast performance metrics and forecast verification and decision support technologies. This includes overseeing activities such as independent quality assessments of forecast products, the development of verification techniques to measure product performance in the context of operational decisions, and the development of technologies providing product performance metrics and decision support. Missy holds a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Colorado and a B.A. in Mathematics from Millsaps College.

Doug Bowman is a Lead Engineer in the Research and Development group at Little Rock, AR based Southwest Power Pool, where he has served in various engineering roles within SPP's engineering business. Doug's current responsibilities include various technical studies, power systems research, and the development of SPP Engineering staff.  Doug represents the company as an industry advisor for various external technical and R&D entities such as Electric Power Institute (EPRI) and the Power Systems Engineering Research Center (PSERC).  Doug has recently served as adjunct Professor in the Systems Engineering Department at The University of Arkansas at Little Rock and currently teaches electric power systems courses for the IEEE Power and Energy Society. Prior to joining SPP, Doug worked for Entergy Corporation in multiple positions covering a wide range of transmission business engineering functions such as substation and transmission design, construction engineering, and project management.  Prior to joining Entergy, Doug was the Manager of Siemens' Richland, MS, High Voltage Laboratory where he provided oversight on electrical and mechanical testing of high voltage apparatus.  Doug holds a Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering from Mississippi State University and is a Professional Engineer in the State of Arkansas as well as a certified Project Management Professional (PMP).  He is currently pursuing a PhD. in Electrical Engineering through the University of Arkansas.

​Chad Ringley is the Director of Energy Analytics for Pattern Energy Group LP. He designed and operates Pattern’s high performance computing center, which uses numerical weather prediction models for global site prospecting and asset management, including wind, power, and revenue forecasts for Pattern’s fleet. He has a wide range of duties including market operations, operational assessments, short and long term power forecasting, wind and solar resource assessment, site design, and data visualization. Chad has 9 years of industry experience and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Meteorology from the University of Oklahoma and a Masters of Science in Atmospheric Sciences from North Carolina State University.
